Ocean City, Md -- No one makes OPA racers feel more welcome than Bill Purnell and Sunset Marina in Ocean City Maryland. With some of the best offshore boat racing water in the world, Ocean City is a race spectacle to behold. Every Year this seaside community has rolled out the red carpet as 20 million dollars worth of racing boats and equipment crossed their cherished city limits. The weekend's festivities begins Friday evening May 28, 2010 at 7:00 EST at the recently opened Wild Bill's located next to the Atlantic Hotel. Long considered the calm before the storm, the Friday night racers party has been a time for old and new friends alike to gather to relax and enjoy themselves.

While a wrist band is required to enter the party, fans, sponsors and supporters of the offshore powerboat races are welcome to mingle with these celebrated competitors. Wild Bill's offers live entertainment, food and drinks. Be sure to mark your calendar for this event.
Throughout the day on Saturday, testing will begin as the teams fine tune their high speed chariots. Beginning early in the day, fans can gather on the beach as the boats race along the shoreline discovering the very ragged edge of certain destruction. Some of these amazing craft are capable of speeds exceeding 200mph.
Sunday brings the main event. Racers begin their day before sun up with a required 7AM racer physical to determine if the crew members are physically able to withstand the pounding endured during the course of a race. A team meeting follows at the Coast Guard pavillion located on the south end of the beach next to the inlet. This private meeting briefs the teams on Coast Guard rules and regulations as well as expectations and course boundries. At 12:00 PM EST the first race of the 2010 Ocean City Offshore Grand Prix begins.
The smaller class boats will gather in a circle called a "mill" at the southern end of the course. Generally the smaller class boats will consist of two to four classes of boats. Boats are classified by their top speed and horse power. When all teams have found their way into the mill the first class will be led out by a pace boat. Once the first start is out on the course a safe distance the second start of the race led by a second pace boat will bring out the next batch of contenders. Both starts will circle the course in what is known as the parade lap. When the boats approach the start/finish line they will be up on plane. Crossing the line you will see a green flag from the starting line boat and the race begins.
The second start will bring the same experience with a green flag. The boats will race for 7 to 9 laps depending upon the class until a winner is established by who crosses the finish line first. These boats will fight deck to deck and launch into the air sometimes as much as 6-8 feet as they do battle with the waves and each other. Long considered one of the most dangerous motorsports n the world, offshore powerboat racing will delight spectators young and old alike as the competitors battle it out for who is "top dog".
We hope to see each one of you at the Ocean City Maryland race on May 28-30, 2010. If you can not make the race, please feel free to watch the racing action LIVE on May 30 right here on SupercatRacing.com beginning at 10AM!
